A series of waterborne polyurethanes(WBPUs) having various carboxyl acid salt groups were prepared by prepolymer mixing process. In order to add conductivity to the insulating polymer WBPU (about 10-12S/cm) surface, aniline monomer was graft-copolymerized onto the WBPU back-borne polymer by oxidative polymerization of aniline using ammonium peroxydisulphate(APS) in aqueous HCl after forming salts from amino groups in aniline and carboxyl acid groups in WBPU. In this study, the effect of reaction conditions (reaction time and temperature, HCl and APS concentrations) on the grafting degree and the type of polyaniline was investigated. Mechanical properties, hardness, electrical conductivity, and antistaticity of polyaniline-grafted waterborne polyurethane films were also investigated as function of grafting degree and the type of polyaniline. |
