Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) doped with polystyrene sulfonate (PSS) has commonly been used as a hole transport layer (HTL) in organic photovoltaics (OPV), because PEDOT:PSS has optimal energy level as HTL and high conductivity. However a large particle size and highly acidic nature of PEDOT:PSS could corrode ITO. For the purpose to solve these problems, a water-soluble and self-doped polyaniline graft copolymer is prepared and used as HTL in OPV based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester. The work function and sheet resistance of thin film of polyaniline grafted copolymer is comparable to that of the PEDOT:PSS, while the transmittance and electric conductivity of the copolymer thin film are higher than those of PEDOT:PSS. Since this novel copolymer has advantages over the PEDOT:PSS in terms of the film quality, transmittance and electrical conductivity, this conducting polymer can be one of the promising candidates for HTL in OPV. |
