Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted enormous interest from both academia and industry, since they show remarkable mechanical and electrical properties. In particular, exceptional mechanical properties of CNTs make them an ideal reinforcing material for polymer composites. Recently, several researchers have attempted to prepare polymer/CNT composites using a compatibilizer which strongly interacts with both the CNTs and polymer. In this study, we synthesize polythiophene-graft-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) as a new compatibilizer for polycarbonate/MWCNT composite, where polythiophene backbone is expected to be strongly adsorbed on the surface of MWCNT viaπ-πinteraction while PCL graft is miscible with PC matrix. The morphological structure and mechanical properties of PC/MWCNT composites are investigated as a function of the MWCNT content. |
