Real time FT-IR spectroscopy is an analytical method to characterize materials by monitoring the change in spectra with time. This method can be applied to characterize thermal and photoreactions of polymers, providing information on reaction rate and conversion at the same time. This presentation covers an introduction of real time spectroscopy and application examples to photoreactions of polymers. Real time data collection was performed with simultaneous UV irradiation on the sample. Using this technique, the effect of oxygen, thickness, and UV intensity on reaction was studied and process parameters were optimized. This analytical methodology is successfully implemented in current R&D environments and has future potentials in polymer researches. |
