The PS-b-PAA block copolymers were used to improve the solubility of carbon dots in organic solvents. The PS-b-PAA block copolymer which is amphiphilic and self-assembled according to the composition and external environment is combined with carbon dots under the EDC/NHS system. The resulting PS-b-PAA-CD complex acts as a corona part of PAA-CD under water-soluble whereas in the PS selective solvent, the PAA-CD part acts as the core, and the fluorescence intensity decreases due to the quenching effect of the π-π interaction between adjacent carbon dots. Also, PS-b-PAA-CD showed good solubility not only in water but also organic solvents such as THF, and the quantum yield was 40%, which is similar to the yield of the existing carbon dot (39.5%). The PMMA/PS-b-PAA-CD composite film was prepared by solution-blending with PMMA and the particles were uniformly dispersed through the fractured section through SEM, and the measured quantum yield was also as high as 41%. |
