Tri-component Polymeric Photovoltaic Cells |

Converting the solar energy into electrical energy is one of the solutions to the energy crisis the world facing today. Photovoltaic cells based on polymers will provide much needed solution to this crisis. Much work has been underway to improve the efficiency of the polymeric photovoltaic cells to come to the level of commercialization. The most common approach in this system is based on bulk heterojunction formation within the photovoltaic layer using electron acceptor materials along with donor conjugated polymers. Recently, 4.4 % power conversion efficiency was reported with P3HT and PCBM materials. Here, we report the fabrication of bulk heterojunction solar cells using the combination of P3HT and poly(2-methoxy-5(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene) blend polymers as donor material and PCBM as acceptor material. The effect of blend ratio, thickness of active layer and the different cathode combination on photovoltaic performance was also been investigated. |
