Selective Enhancement of Fluorescence Using Photonic Crystal Films |

We report a method to enhance fluorescence using photonic crystal films. In our method, the photonic band-gap of an underlying photonic crystal film could be easily modulated by changing the distance between ordered spherical silica particles in a polymer matrix. Then, when a fluorescent polymer solution was spin-coated on the photonic crystal film, we observed the distinct enhancement of fluorescence at 592nm owing to the photonic band-gap of the underlying photonic crystal films. Additionally, an total enhancement of the fluorescent signal due to scattering of incident light by the film was observed. It might be potentially applicable to optoelectronic, biological and lighting device, because this approach is simple, effective, and cheap. |
