Enhanced Solar Photoelectrochemical Conversion Efficiency of the Hydrothermally-deposited TiO2-Nanorod Arrays: Effects of the Aspect Ratio and Optimum Charge Transfer |

This paper describes the packing density and aspect ratio of a vertically aligned TiO2 NRA that was manipulated by simply changing the amount of the Ti precursor in the initial growth solution of the hydrothermal method. PEC analyses demonstrated that the TiO2 nanorods that were deposited at TB-1.2 of Ti butoxide show a relatively high PEC-conversion efficiency (3.5 times) compared with the TB-0.8 prepared TiO2 at a bias of 1.0 V versus RHE. The UV-vis-absorption measurements revealed that a sample prepared at TB-1.2 can provide an increased light-trapping effect with an effective light-harvesting efficiency due to the optimum array-structure density and aspect-ratio. The higher PEC performance is believed to be the result of an enhancement of the visible-light trapping that is due to a large aspect ratio, an efficient charge separation, and the high carrier transport of the vertically aligned TiO2 NRs. |
