Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has received much attention in recent years as a powerful method of cancer treatment. Most PDTs use high energy near-infrared (NIR) light with low tissue penetration. However, these problems must be improved for effective treatment because they reduce the efficiency of treatment. In order to overcome these drawbacks, it is necessary to convert low-energy light with deep tissue penetration to high-energy light. In this study, upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with hexagonal phase were synthesized by hydrothermal method. Then, biocompatible block copolymer were introduced into the UCNPs for surface modification and also PSs were conjugated for PDT action. Their morphology, chemical composition and optical properties were analyzed. This UCNP-based nanocarrier is expected to be used for imaging and PDT of cancer in deep tissues. |
