The crosslinked polystyrene (PS) clusters with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized from the styrene with MWCNTs and divinyl benzene (DVB) as crosslinking agent via in-situ suspension polymerization method. The diameters of crosslinked PS-MWCNT clusters were from 20 to 50 m. The crosslinked PS-MWCNT clusters were characterized by scanning electron microscopy to observe their morphology and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The crosslinked PS-MWCNT clusters as conductive micro-fillers were compounded with PS in the solution state. The incorporation of crosslinked PS-MWCNT clusters to PS matrix induced to increases in tensile strength, ultimate strain, Young’s modulus, and impact strength of the composites. Their electrical conductivity was also characterized by electrical resistance measurements. |
