The effect of corona-discharge for γ-amino propyl triethoxy silane (APS) grafting on zeolite surface is studied in terms of surface properties. The corona discharge power is varied within the range of 0∼150 watt, and the introduction of functional groups is confirmed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The mechanical interfacial properties of epoxy/zeolite composites are characterized in the context of the critical stress intensity factor (KIC) measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As an experimental result, the corona treatment leads to an increase of O1s/(Si+Al) and the surface free energy of zeolite is affected by alkyl group as the corona-discharged power increases. In the mechanical interfacial properties of composites, the functional groups of zeolite grafted with APS play an important role in improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces in epoxy/zeolite composites system.
