The hydrogen bonding is one of the powerful tools for assembling molecules and building organized molecular structures. Discotic liquid crystal (DLC) materials have been attracting increasing attention due to their particular transport properties related to electron and hole transfer and DLC molecules have been known to form both nematic and columnar mesophases. The objective of this study is to synthesize a new type of hydrogen-bonded DLCs used core material with tricarboxylic acid, and 4-[2-(pyridine-4-yl)vinyl]phenyl 3,4,5-tris(alkyloxy)benzoate by side material. It researched the change of the liquid crystalline phase which it follows in the alkyl carbon number. Composition of DLCs analyzed through H NMR, and hydrogen bond availability of complex confirmed through FT-IR Spectroscopy. Formation availability of liquid crystal and self-assembly structure confirmed using polarized light microscope and X-ray diffraction, and thermal behavior of liquid crystal examined by DSC. |
