Graphene has attracted considerable interest in biomedical researches. Although graphene has unique advantages, such as large surface area for the aromatic drug loading, it`s easily precipitated in biological solutions. To overcome this problem, a novel polysaccharide-GO hybrid system was developed for graphene with high stability in the body condition in this study. Furthermore, the polysaccharide selected has the ability to target cancer cells through the special interaction with its receptors. For the cancer-targeted PDT, the nanohybrids were loaded with aromatic photosensitizers. We demonstrated that the cellular internalization of the nanohybrids carrying photosensitizers was more effective than that of free photosensitizers. Consequently, the PDT efficiency could be improved, as shown in MTT assay. Our work highlights the great promise of polysaccharide-conjugated GO nanohybrids loaded with photosensitizers for cancer-targeted PDT. |
