The combination of carbon dot (CD) and graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) has the attractive advantages in the field of photocatalytic water splitting. In the present study, we investigate the excited states of carbon dot and graphitic carbon nitride composites, which contains various functional groups such as –OH, -CHO, and –COOH groups. CD decorated graphitic carbon nitride composite improves the separation of electron and hole pairs by means of charge transfer between excited CDs and GCN. The carbon dots synthesized from β-resorcyclic acid has shown excellent colors (green, blue, and blue-violet) based on various pH media. The average size of carbon dots was measured using TEM, which have shown 8.5-9.5 nm. Furthermore, optical studies, functional group analysis, and crystal features were analyzed using UV-visible, photoluminescence (PL) FTIR, and XRD. The presence of functional groups on the CDs play a significant role in the oxidation and reduction reactions of water. |
