Calcium Phosphate Mineralization on Self-Assembled Nanoparticles:A New Platform Technology for Nanomedicine |

We report on the broad utilities of mineralized polymer nanoparticles in nanomedicine. As one example for cancer chemotherapy, the polymer nanocarrier with a calcium phosphate (Cap) mineral shell was developed by CaP deposition on a core-shell-corona polymer micelle. The CaP shell could minimize the loss of the entrapped doxorubicin (DOX) before reaching target tissues, and selectively dissolve in lower pH and Ca2+ concentration of endosomal compartments to facilitate intracellular DOX release. The mineralized nanocarriers showed the prolonged circulation time in blood and enhanced tumor specificity in tumor-bearing mice. |
