Abluminal stent coating method for re-endothelialization and anti-inflammation |

Drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation has been widely used in treatment approaches for coronary artery diseases. However, conventional DES exhibits an uncontrolled drug release profile and thus retards re-endothelialization, resulting in restenosis and late thrombosis. Additionally, inflammation caused by decomposition products of coating polymers is an unsolved problem. To overcome these limitations, we developed a novel stent that can promote re-endothelialization through abluminal coating process and inhibit inflammation by adding magnesium hydroxide (MH). The successful abluminal coating was confirmed by SEM. In vitro cell experiments showed that the group containing MH was superior to the control group in the anti-inflammatory effect. In conclusion, the new concept stent developed in this study is considered highly likely to be used in clinical practice because it effectively induces re-endothelialization with an anti-inflammatory effect. |
