제목 | Effects of Preparation Methods on Properties of Polymer-Carbon Nanotubes Composites |
초록 | The composites of MWCNTs/PMMA were fabricated by two-step process composed of solution and melt mixing. The proposed two-step process induced MWCNTs to be uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix without further chemical modification. The uniform dispersion of the MWCNTs improved significantly mechanical and electrical properties of the composites. The solutions of the MWCNTs in water, hexane, DMF and NMP were observed by optical microscope after treated by sonication. The fractured surfaces of the tensile specimens were observed by SEM. Figure 1 is SEM images of the MWCNTs composites of 1 wt% MWCNTs prepared by normal melt mixing and two-step process. In case of two-step process, the MWCNTs were uniformly dispersed at a nanoscale order in matrix. In case of normal melt mixing, the aggregation structures with dozens of micrometer in size were shown in figure 1 (a). Tensile moduli increased linearly with the contents of MWCNTs as shown in figure 2. The composites revealed the increased storage moduli and surface conductivity with increasing the MWCNTs contents. Figure 1. SEM images of MWCNTs composites after tensile testing (a) normal melt mixing and (b) two-step process (solution-melt mixing). Figure 2. Tensile modulus of composites as a function of the content of MWCNTs. |
