제목 Modification of poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene-co-vinyl acetate) beads for adsorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) recovery
초록 Microwave-assisted desorption of VOCs has been suggested to be an alternative to the conventional desorption methods using a hot nitrogen gas or steam, with respect to energy consumption and economic point of view. However, nonpolar VOCs such as benzene, toluene and xylene are hardly desorbed from common nonpolar polymer adsorbents because both nonpolar adsorbents and adsorbates are not effectively heated by microwaves. In this research, macroporous polymer beads bearing hydoxyl groups were prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene-co-vinyl acetate) beads. The resulting polymer beads exhibited greatly enhanced microwave-assisted desorption of benzene, as compared to common nonpolar polymer beads. The experimental results will be presented in detail.
