Analysis of Calcium Phosphate-Strontium Hybrid Films and HOS Cell Behavior |

Strontium is one of the trace elements constituting the natural bone and its physiological role in bone formation has not been well exploited. Hence we prepared strontium-substituted calcium phosphate films for the examination of HOS cell responses in order to clarify the effect of strontium on the osteoblast behavior. SEM micrographs of the hybrid films displayed surface of the films were highly porous. We observed that the surface porosity was decreased with the increase of the strontium concentration. The physical properties such as surface roughness and morphology were observed using AFM and SEM. The XPS analysis revealed the characteristics of the chemical states of consitutent element of the films. In order to examine the cellular responses to the films with different strontium contents, we performed adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation assays. |
