Solid-state supramolecular polymer electrolyte containing double hydrogen bonding sites at both chain ends was employed to achieve the efficiency of DSSCs. The hydrogen bonding sites were introduced at both chain ends of the poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), which were synthesized by pyrimethamine and glutaric acid. The maximum ionic conductivity of the solid state electrolyte is 5.11x10-4 (S/cm). The supramolecular polymer electrolyte of the composition [PEG]:[1-methyl-3-propyl imidazolium iodide (MPII)]:[I2] = 20 : 1 : 0.19 resulted in a short circuit current density of (JSC) 10.41 mAcm-2, an open circuit voltage (VOC), of 0.71 V, a fill factor (FF) of 0.62, the overall energy conversion efficiency of 4.63% at one sun conditions (active area = 0.16 cm2, TiO2 layer thickness = 10 μm). This electrolyte would have two advantages which have proper mechanical strength and self-solidified characteristics by hydrogen bonding sites with simple structures for good efficiency and durability. |
