Novel Organic Dye Composed of Phenothiazine and 2-cyano-2-(2,6-dimethyl-4H-pyran-4-ylidene)acetic acid for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Applications |

In recent years, great efforts have been devoted to the synthesis and property investigation of organic dyes as substitutes for the noble metal complexes in dye-sensitized solar cells. This paved a way to our research to synthesize novel organic dyes suitable for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Applications. 2-(2,6-bis((E)-2-(10-hexyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl)vinyl)-4H-pyran-4-ylidene)-2-cyanoacetic acid a novel organic dye was designed and synthesized by reacting 2-cyano-2-(2,6-dimethyl-4H-pyran-4-ylidene)acetic acid with 10-hexyl-10H-phenothiazine-3-carbaldehyde. The structure of the organic dye was established using FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The optical properties of the dye were investigated using ultraviolet-absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The HOMO, LUMO and the bandgap energy were determined from the cyclic voltammetry and absorption spectroscopy. The photovoltaic properties of synthesized organic dye will be discussed. |
