Effect of interfacial adhesion on mechanical properties of epoxy composites reinforced CNT and oxyfluorinated carbon fiber powder |

The PAN-based carbon fiber is ground to powder and then surface-treated by fluorine and oxygen gas to enhance interfacial adhesion between carbon fiber and epoxy resin. The surface-chemical properties of surface-treated carbon fiber powder (st-CFP) are investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and contact angle analysis (CAA). Contact angles are shown the decreasing indication in condition of oxyfluorination higher partial pressure of fluorine. Also, the mechanical properties of epoxy composites reinforced st-CFP and CNT are significantly improved by 38%, 21% in tensile and impact strength compare to those of CFP/CNT/epoxy composites. This results are ascribed to enhanced interfacial adhesion of epoxy resin with CFP due to increasing surface-polarity by oxyfluorination. |
