Advanced dehydrate rate of nanocellulose suspension facilitated by tert-Butanol addition in oven drying method |
초록 |
Stock solution of cellulose nanocrystal containing a large amount of water (> 90%), leads to increase of manufacturing cost. Along with several ways for dehydration, oven drying method at high temperature is common one because of its availability and ease, however, the post-drying cellulose nanocrystal powder becomes difficult to redisperse in water in spite of harsh disintegrating treatments. In our study, tert-butanol (t-BuOH) was employed as assisted-drying agent, proved ability not to reduce time only, but t-BuOH also prevents surficial structure of these particles from exfoliation. A 12-folds decrease of drying time was achieved when cellulose nanocrystal solution (1 mL) was mixed with t-BuOH (9 mL) and dried in oven. Shrinkage of cellulose interfibril was also reduced since t-BuOH facilitates the surface tension of water while the residue of t-BuOH keeps nanocellulose particles in distance that make them redispersed well in water because of lack of hydrogen bond forming. |
