Organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) was introduced to PEO-PMMA miscible blend for the polymer/clay nanocomposite through solvent casting method. The characteristic internal structures and rheological behaviors of those novel polymer blend nanocomposites were interpreted based on the dominant incorporation of the PMMA chain with OMMT such as an interaction parameter, χ12. In conjunction with the X-ray diffractogram which is nearly the same with the interlayer spacing of simple PMMA-OMMT system, the peculiar oscillatory behavior especially in the terminal region (low frequency region); higher storage modulus (G') than loss modulus (G") made it possible to scrutinize the characteristic polymer blend / organoclay nanocomposites. On the other hand, the novel enhancement of thermal stability was also confirmed by TGA even by the small amount of clay, similar to other polymer/clay nanocomposites (TGA). |
