제목 Synthesis and Characterization of Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymer/Organo-clay Nanocomposites
초록 Nanocomposites are a new class of particle-filled composites in which at least one dimension of the dispersed particles is within 100 nm. Recently, polymer/nanocomposites have attracted much attention. Because of the nanometer-size dispersed particles, these nanocomposites exhibit markedly improved mechanical, thermal, optical, and physico chemical properties in comparison with pristine polymers or micro scale composites.
In this study, we synthesized thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polymer/Clay(TLCP/Clay) nanocomposites and investigated their properties. TLCP/Clay nanocomposites were synthesized by in-situ polymerization of diol and diacylchloride in the presence of organo-clay. The TLCP and TLCP/Clay nanocomposites were characterized by Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC), Thermogravimetry(TGA), X-ray Diffraction(XRD), FT-IR Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM), respectively. The results showed that the clays were well dispersed in the TLCP matrix and intercalated. The DSC analysis measurements showed that the glass-temperature and crystallization rate of the TLCP/Clay nanocomposites were increased with increasing organo-clay content, whereas the melting temperature rarely changed. We also found that the addition of organo-clay improved the thermal stabilities of TLCP/Clay nanocomposites.
