Drug delivery systems (DDS) have been drawing much attention in both industry and academia to improve the efficacy and convenience in drug therapy as well as the patients’ compliance. Although many of traditional DDS have shown their advantages in drug therapy to a large extent, several critical issues, such as highly precise and directional drug delivery, have been still unresolved due to their uncontrolled physical aspects. Therefore, we developed novel methods to process custom-shaped biomaterials and investigated their applications in precision drug therapy. Thus-produced biomaterial-based devices include monodisperse microspheres, mucoadhesive microdiscs, nanofibrous membranes with micro-porosity and several bulk-type devices with controlled geometry, which exhibited accurately tailored drug delivery as well as enhanced targeting efficiency. |
