Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Various Natural Fiber/Polycardanol Biocomposites |

Polycardanol-based natural fiber biocomposites were fabricated by compression mold technique using four different types of natural fibers: kenaf, jute, banana, and sisal. The surfaces of natural fibers were modified with different types of silane coupling agents to enhance the interfacial adhesion with polycardanol matrix. The objective of this study is to investigate the thermal and mechanical properties of silane-treated natural fiber/polycardanol bio-composites. They were examined by utilizing thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and three-point flexural test. Both the thermal and mechanical properties of the biocomposites were improved due to the increased interfacial strength through the fiber treatment. The result also indicates that the properties depend on the silane type used. |
