A new hybrid mesoporous silica nanosensor has been prepared by co-condensation of TEOS and pyridyl salicylaldehyde precursor in the presence of CTAB. The functional probe molecule has been synthesized from salicylaldehyde and 4-aminomethyl pyridine and then modified with 3-isocyanatopropyl triethoxysilane. The hybrid nanosensor has been characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, TEM, N2 adsorption-desorption analysis and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The colorimetric properties, selectivity, sensitivity and reversibility of the hybrid nanosensor also determined by UV-visible spectroscopy. The obtained mesoporous silica hybrid nanosensor responds selectively to Cu2+ and Fe2+ with colour change from pale yellow to green for Cu2+ and dark brown for Fe2+ in both the strong acidic (pH 2) and basic (pH 12) conditions. This optical hybrid nanosensor shows the detection limit as low as 50 ppb by naked eye and shows an excellent regeneration property with EDTA solution. |
