Preparation and characteristics of EPDM/polyamide12 elastomers through electron beam irradiation |

Ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) is blended with polyamide12 (PA12) at various compositions to afford thermoplastic elastomer in the presence of maleated EPDM (mEPDM) as a compatibilizer. The EPDM/PA12 blends are further irradiated with e-beam at 0 ~ 100 kGy dosage to endow selective crosslinking between the EPDM chains. The selective crosslinking of EPDM phase affords additional improvements in mechanical properties of the EPDM/PA12 blend, while retaining melt-processibility through PA12 phase.
