We present the first approach to synthesize triblock copolymers consisting of poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), poly(δ-valerolactone) (PVL), or poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) via monomer-activated ring opening polymerization of polyesters by PPG in the presence of a monomer activator and then to compare the micelle formation behavior of triblock copolymers. The micelle formation behavior of polyester-PPG-polyester triblock copolymers in an aqueous phase was examined by using 1H-NMR, dynamic light scattering, and fluorescence techniques. CMCs, diameters of micelles and the partition equilibrium constant, Kv, of the triblock copolymers prepared in this work depended on changes in hydrophobicity of polyester. We confirmed that the polymeric micelles formed with PCL-PPG-PCL, PVL-PPG-PVL, and PTMC-PPG-PTMC triblock copolymers may be potential materials in the various applications. |
