Effect of Carbon Nanotube on the Morphology of Poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) (SAN) and Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) Blends |

Nanocomposites of the miscible SAN/PVC blend containing well-dispersed multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared by solution blending of SAN, PVC and MWNTs, followed by melt mixing using a Brabender mixer. The chemical structures of the composites of MWNT and polymer blend (SAN/PVC) were analyzed by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies. SEM and TEM were utilized to observe the formation of the nanoscale nanocomposites and the distribution of the MWNT in the nanocomposite. Thermal properties of nanocomposites were characterized by TGA and DSC. The values of the interaction parameter (χab) and the interaction energy density (B) were calculated using by using the molar attraction constants of the specific functional groups derived from the Hoy’s table. Adhesion characteristics of nanocomposite films was evaluaed via T-peel test. |
