Hydrogel is effective materials with good biocompatibility, water absorption ability, moisture retention and ventilating ability for wound dressing. In this study, poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone)/microfibrillated cellulose(MFC) blend hydrogels have been prepared using the electron beam irradiation technique. The various properties of the hydrogel has been measured as: the gel fraction, swelling behavior, moisture retention and mechanical properties. Compared with pure PVP hydrogel, PVP/MFC blend hydrogels showed high gel strength and flexibility. Since the content of PVP in PVP/MFC blend hydrogels increased, the gel fraction increased, but the maximum swelling decreased. The optimal properties of PVP/MFC blend hydrogels were obtained in a composition of PVP/MFC=1/1 at E-beam of 25kGy and further characterized by SEM and FT-IR etc. The prepared hydrogel could be used for various biomedical applications such as wound dressing. |
