Microalgae is an attractive and, as yet, relatively untapped resource of new natural products. It has been proposed as an interesting, easy-cultured, infinite marine source in the use for natural functional ingredients. Phaeodactylum tricornutum, the microalgae, containing some functional substances which has significant antiinflammatory and analgesic activitiy. Gelatin is a natural biopolymer derived from collagen found in animal tissues. It is often used as drug carriers, wound dressing materials and scaffolds for tissue engineering, since it has good biocompatibility and biodegradability in vivo. In this study we made a gelatin nanofiber mat containing Phaeodactylum tricornutum. The condition for electrospinning was investigated by altering the dope solution concentration, voltage, and flow rate. Finally, adhesion and proliferation of mouse fibroblasts on gelatin and gelatin-microalgae nanofibrous scaffolds were compared. |
