Core-extended perylene bisimides(PBI) were considered for an n-type material and synthesized by Diels-Alder reaction or palladium-catalyzed reaction on reactive bay sites of PBI. Among various substituents to the bay site, conjugated nitrogen-donation groups induced strong absorptive spectral change of a red-shift. Thermal adducts of PBI and 1,2,4-triazolin-3,5-dione used as an ideal dienophile spontaneously oxidized to yield fully conjugated aromatic system in high temperature. These derivatives afforded characteristic absorption of near IR region up to 800nm. The polymer synthesis from the core-extended PBI derivatives was attempted for electronic characterization and film applications such as organic solar cell and IR sensor. |
