Due to the need for high-strength transparent materials in the mobility industry, transparent composites using glass fibers/thermosetting polymers are being attempted. Each material has high transparency, but the severe problem is that clarity is lost when manufactured as composites due to a significant difference in refractive index. In this study, the refractive indices of the glass fiber and the matrix were made similar by varying the curing conditions. The thermal and optical properties of the glass fiber and thermosetting polymers were investigated with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), lens refractometer and UV-Vis spectrophotometers, respectively. As a result, the developed composites exhibited advanced optical transparency (≥70% @ 550 nm), being thinkable to be enough applied to transparent electronic and automotive devices. |
