Polythiophenes with Electron-donating Side-chain andTheir Application to Organic Thin-Film Transistors |

Thiophene-based π-conjugated polymers have been widely used in p-channel OTFTs due to their high charge carrier mobility. The electronic property of such conjugated polymers can be tuned by changing their chemical structure. It is known that increase of the main-chain electron-density makes the resultant polymer more p-type. In this work, we introduced electron-rich groups to the side-chain of the polymers to improve the p-type property of the material. Poly(3,3`-dodecylsulfanyl-quaterthiophene) (SPQT-12) was synthesized via Stille polymerization and GPC analysis gave a Mn of 7700 and Mw 24300 against polystyrene standards. The UV-vis absorption spectrum of SPQT-12 in dilute dichlorobenzene solution showed with λmax at 513 nm, while its thin film absorption with λmax at 567, and SPQT-12 showed a lower band-gap compared with its alkyl side-chain analogue. Details of the synthetic procedure and characterization results will be disclosed in the presentation. |
