Effect of organic modified clay on PMMA/clay nanocomposites in supercritical HCFC-22 |

Supercritical fluids have been used in material synthesis and processing because of their special properties such as high diffusivity, and low surface tension. Carbon dioxide is the favorite solvent in SCF processes because it has relatively low critical temperature and pressure and because it is inexpensive, nontoxic, and readily available. However, it is generally not a good solvent for dissolving high molecular weight polymers with the exception of fluoropolymers and siloxane polymers. On the other hand, hydrocarbon solvents have been known to be good solvents for a variety of high molecular weight polymers. In this study, we prepared the polymer/clay nanocomposites using SCF. Cloisites 15A,30B used in this study are natural montmorillonites modified with a quaternary ammonium salt. And also the Na+-MMT was modified by a fluorinated surfactant(10F-clay) in which the fluorinated tail is chlorodifluoromethane (HCFC-22)-philic and thus can help provide exfoliation in scHCFC-22. |
