Due to their helical structure, cholesteric liquid crystals exhibit remarkable optical properties. Selective light reflection occurs when the pitch (repeat distance) is of the order of the wavelength of incident light propagating along the helix axis. In this study, the effects of coating conditions on alignments of cholesteric LC were investigated by changing temperature, shear force, and coating method. Coated on single substrate cholesteric liquid films are observed by using ATR-FTIR, surface profilometer, and reflectance parameters of the cholesteric liquid crystal films are measured by UV/Vis spectrometer. The helical structures of the cholesteric liquid films are observed by polarized optical microscope (POM). |
