Regulation of hMSC behaviors on the dual-functional nanofibrous meshes for tissue engineering |

Poly(L-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) (PLCL) has been used to prepare the nanofibrous meshes for tissue engineering, which can play a role as an artificial extracelluar matrix(ECM) in regulating cell behaviors. However, hydrophobicity of the PLCL nanofibrous meshes has limited the proper interaction between the materials and cells exhibiting immature adherent morphology and reduced proliferation. To overcome the limitation, we used γ-ray irradiation to graft acrylic acid on the nanofibrous meshes, and a surface morphology and chemical property of the functionalized nanofibrous meshes were analyzed with SEM, ATR-FTIR, and water contact angle. Moreover, Gelatin and EGF as functional proteins in regulating the cellular responses were immobilized on the PLCL scaffolds. The adhesion and proliferation of the cells were significantly up-regulated on the dual-functional nanofibrous meshes. Therefore, our novel nanofibrous meshes can be used as alternative scaffolds in tissue engineering. |
