The interest to develop carbon membrane only increased, since the concept of carbon membrane for gas separation has been found in the early 1970. Carbon membranes offer advantages over polymeric membranes especially in terms of selectivity as well as thermal and chemical stability. Even though carbon membranes have useful characteristics and advantages compared to polymeric membranes and other porous inorganic membranes, much research and development effort is needed in order to increase the gas separation performance and, further, to commercialize carbon membranes in the international market. This paper considers the current status and development of carbon membranes for gas separation. |
