One of the most attractive subjects in nanochemistry is concerned with the creation of supramolecular architectures with well defined shape and functions. Self-assembly of molecules through non-covalent forces including attractive and repulsive interactions has the great potential for creating such supramolecular structures. A typical example is provided by rod-coil molecules in which the supramolecular structures arise from a combination of organizing forces including mutual repulsion of the dissimilar blocks and attractive interactions of rigid segments. In this presentation, various supramolecular nanostructures assembled by organic building blocks will be introduced. |
