Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most versatile and widely used plastics and is utilized in the packaging, medical and automotive industries. In order to prepare PP, the polymerization of propylene was carried out with MgCl2-supported TiCl4 catalyst in conjunction with triethylaluminium cocatalysts. The effect of polymerization temperature (Tp) on the propylene polymerization was studied. The catalyst activity drastically increased with increasing Tp from 10 oC to 40 oC. However, the Tp higher than 40 oC resulted in lower catalyst activity. As the Tp increased, the molecular weight decreased significantly while the polydispersity index (PDI) increased. Additionally, the effect of two stepwise Tp on propylene polymerization was investigated. |
