Some Distinctive Concepts in Electrochemistry |

This presentation addresses a few basic ideas about electrochemical systems that cause confusion among newcomers. The major goal is to provide a chemical sense for the important variables of potential, current, and thermodynamics and kinetics involved in electrochemistry. Five simple statements will be made. 1) Potential is an expression of electron energy. 2) Electrochemical system is not homogeneous. 3) Many things happen at once. 4) Current is an expression of reaction rate. 5) One cannot control both current and potential simultaneously. |
