Platinum widely used as the electrocatalysts in fuel cell is expensive and the limited world’s supply of platinum poses serious problems for a widespread commercialization of the fuel cell technology. Many studies in electrocatalysis have focused on replacing Pt with less expensive materials such as metal oxides, carbides, chalcogenides, inorganic and organometallic complexes. Though they generally exhibit lower catalytic activity, recent researches on Pd based electrocatalysts such as Pd-Co-Au, Pd-Ti show that equal or slightly better performance than Pt for oxygen reduction reaction. |
