Enhancing the Performance of Organic Photovoltaic Device via Integrating Förster Resonance Energy Transfer & Plasmonic Effect |

Efficiency of solar cell can be improved by adding PTB7 polymer to the P3HT : PCBM active layer. The emission of P3HT is overlapped with the absorption of PTB7, leading to Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) phenomenon. Also, the combined absorption spectrum of P3HT and PTB7 occupies a larger portion of the solar spectrum, so that it absorbs sunlight more efficiently than when only P3HT is used can do. The rate and range of FRET can be further extended by the generation of near-field and plasmon resonant energy transfer (PRET) by introducing plasmonic nanostructures. We have proposed a method to improve the PCE by adding gold nano-bipyramid (AuNBP) as plasmonic nanostructure to increase the light path by scattering as well as the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect. AuNBP provides a stronger electric field compared with AuNPs and facilitates the electron excitation process of active layer. |
