제목 Preparation of Novel Porous Carbons Supporting Metal Nanoparticles and Their Applications to Energy and Environmental Related Problems
초록 We have recently developed novel porous carbons supporting metal nanoparticles in highly dispersed state. In this presentation the method to prepare the porous carbons and the possibility and prospect of their applications to several practical problems will be discussed.
A meta-acrylic acid type ion exchange resin (Mitsubishi Chemical, WK-11) was mainly used as a starting material. It was spherical in shape and its average diameter was about 0.5 mm. The resin was treated by several aqueous solutions containing cations such as Ni2+, Co2+, Fe2+, Zn2+, Sn2+, etc. at room temperature for exchanging its exchange site COOH by the cations, then it was carbonized in an inert atmosphere at 500 to 700 °C to prepare porous carbon containing metals. When exchanged by Ni2+ and carbonized at 500 °C, for example, the porous carbonized resin contained metal Ni by surprisingly 47 wt%, and the metal Ni was highly dispersed in the carbonized resin as uniform nanoparticles of 3 to 4 nm in diameter. The carbonized resin retaining spherical shape was very hard and had accessible pore surfaces of as large as 400 m2/g-carbon. This carbonized resin was successfully utilized as catalysts for several applications: NO reduction catalyst at as low as 350 °C, catalyst for hydrothermal gasification of organics at as low as 250 °C, and so on.
By changing the cation exchanged we could prepare unique porous carbons that can be utilized for various purposes. The resin exchanged by Zn2+ had antimicrobial properties and was successfully utilized for sterilization of drinking water. The resin exchanged by Co2+ had magnetic properties, and was expected to be utilized for some special purposes. The possibility and prospect of these applications will also be discussed in the presentation.
