제목 Fabrication of antimicrobial ABS-composite using urushiol-based antimicrobial material prepared by emulsion polymerization
초록 We fabricated urushiol powder with antimicrobial activity by an emulsion polymerization method of lacquer sap. Urushiol, which is a main component of lacquer sap, has useful properties such as good durability, thermal stability and antimicrobial activity. Lacquer sap should be polymerized by laccase-catalyzed reaction for practical application due to the allege reaction of skin. We introduce an emulsion polymerization method, which directly produces the urushiol powder without grinding process. The polymerized urushiol powder was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to verify applicability of the urushiol power to ABS polymer. The urushiol powder was thermally stable enough to withstand high temperatures over 200-300°C, and was able to be used as a plastic additive. We made urushiol-ABS composite by coating ABS polymer with the urushiol powder. As the urushiol-ABS composite exhibited 99.99% antimicrobial activity, we demonstrated the application of the urushiol powder to antimicrobial plastic products.
