Self-healing microcapsules which are mechanically and thermally stable were prepared and incorporated into a polyurethane (PU) matrix to develop self-healing skin layers of instrument panels in automobiles. In this study, two different poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) microcapsules containing either a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) or Platinum catalyst (Pt) blend or crosslinker were fabricated and using in situ polymerization. Moreover, The two different optimized microcapsules were successfully embedded in a PU matrix and could be broken upon matrix scratching, thereby releasing the healing agent to the target areas via capillary effects. Therefore, the repaired scratched portions were confirmed through chemical and/or physical interactions within the healing system. |
