제목 New sterilization technology by using active oxygen species, and its application: -Cellular adhesiveness of polystyrene surface modified via active oxygen exposure-
초록 Recently, a new sterilization method using reactive species such as the active oxygen species (AOS) or free radicals generated via low temperature plasma apparatus has been vigorously investigated. The AOS sterilization has many advantages such as low temperature processing, dry processing, no residual effects of toxicants, and low initial and operational costs [1]. We have already reported on the detection of the AOS generated in the UV irradiation [2,3] and inductively coupled plasma [3], and confirmed that the AOS exposure was effective in promoting the inactivation of microorganisms. On the other hand, polystyrene (PS) has been an indispensable material in medical, biological, pharmaceutical and agricultural fields, and it has been extensively used in disposable Petri dishes and other containers, as the PS has thermal durability, optical transparency and low production cost [4-6]. As the PS surface is hydrophobic and low surface energy, surface modification for the PS culture dish is required to enhance cell adhesion and affinity [6,7]. In this study, we have aimed to develop the PS simultaneous treatment, i.e., sterilization and surface modification for enhancement of cell adhesion and spreading in the sterilization bag by using the AOS.
