Synthesis of Well-Defined Rod-Coil Block Copolymer of Aromatic Polyamide and Polystyrene by Combination of Chain-Growth Polycondensation and Living Polymerization |
초록 |
The interest in rod-coil block copolymers is due to their unconventional phase behavior in comparison with common coil-coil type diblock copolymers. We have recently achieved control over molecular weight and poly- dispersity of poly(benzamide)s by chain-growth polycondensation. Here we report the synthesis of rod-coil poly (benzamide-b-styrene) by two approaches. In the first approach, living anionic polymerization of St was carried out, followed by quenching with CO2 to yield PStCOOH. Phenyl ester-terminated polystyrene (MI) was obtained by the reaction of PStCOOH and phenol with DCC, DMAP and PTSA. Macroinitiator MI was used for the chain- growth polycondensation for poly(benzamide). The GPC traces showed a clear shift toward the higher molecular weight region. In the second approach, TEMPO-type initiator (1) was used as a bifunctional initiator for chain- growth polycondensation and controlled radical polymerization. Thus, chain-growth polycondensation was carried out with 1 in excess of St, followed by just heating at 120 ℃ to yield the desired block copolymer (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.1). The latter approach with 1 will serve to synthesis controlled rod-coil block copolymer architectures. |
